There is no scientific evidence that any of this will happen, but there are several events that could easily threaten the human species even before the year 2012. The chances of a catastrophe such as an asteroid strike hitting the earth, some sort super-bug flu pandemic, terrorism involving nuclear or chemical weapons, all of these possibilites pose threats every day. There is little if anything that can be certain in this life, but routine preparedness for various events is advised.
